I very well may be the first person in the general public with a set of the newest cans from
SkullCandy, makers of headphones for mobile music players and mobile phones. The Rocnation Aviators were designed in team part of Jay-Z and Live Nation (the production company). Now, some may say its a kick at Dr.Dre's headphone line
Beats By Dre in association with
MonsterCable but we'll leave that be for now.
I guess you can say I'm a lucky man to have these and perhaps even luckier to have a lovely wife that was able to get these while in NYC at Jay-Z's
40/40 club during Yankee's pitcher CC Sabathian's Bday party. Story goes that CC had these made up for everybody on the team with their number on one can and the Yankees logo on the other. I guess some over paid people just don't care about the small things like exclusive headphones!
Lets get down to the nitty gritty here. These things look great and are going to be available in 3 colourways (black, brown and white). I have the white set as that was the best match for the Yankees theme I would imagine. They are styled like old school aviator headsets with the teardrop shaped cans, exposed wire frame and big comfortable pads on the ear pieces...they're memory foam dammit!!!!
materials used are of a high quality synthetic leather on the head strap, memory foam on the ear pads, chrome wire frame and the cord is covered in a nylon rope like covering to prevent tangles and add durability. The 1/8" headphone jack is gold plated for the best connection to your device and is also mic enabled so this set of headphones is also a handsfree for your phone...BONUS! Another bonus is that the integrated volume controls also have iPod controls so you can skip back and forth, pause, answer a call etc all with the built in in-line controls. The whole design and materials used is supposed to mimic the whole aviator theme and give you the feel of quality aviator sunglasses that Jigga seems to like so much.
Sound is deliverd by 40mm full-range drivers (one per can) and they do a very good job at reproducing highs and lows with great clarity and balance. The nice big ear pads do a great job at sealing in the music and keeping the outside noise out. I'm wearing them as I type this and they are probably the most comfortable set of headphones I've had on in a long time...and did I mention they sound great too??
These badboys aren't in stores yet, they were supposed to be released in June and got pushed back to July and it appears are now available from the
SkullCandy website. The estimated street price on these guys is around $150USD and they are worth it if you are looking for a quality set of over ear head phones with mic and iPod controls built in.
Oh...Please excuse the crappy pics...just had to get this down and out quick...better pics to come!
